OPEESA/EETC Technician CertificationWhat is OPEESA/OPE Technician Certification Testing?OPEESA/EETC Technician Certification Testing is designed to measure your basic knowledge in several different areas including technical skills, fundamental theory, failure analysis, trouble shooting and general repair. What tests are offered?Currently, there are five separate certification tests. The categories covered are: Four Cycle Engine, Two Cycle Engine, Compact Diesel, Drive Systems, Electrical, and Generators. Why should I be certified?The benefits of being certified are both personal and professional. When you are able to show that you meet basic industry standards of professionalism through certification, your long-term prospects for increased income and job security are enhanced. Your professionalism and interest in obtaining certification indicates a desire to improve yourself and provide the highest quality service to your customers. This desire and achievement shapes your future. Who should participate in certification testing?Any technician wishing to establish their professional abilities through a nationally recognized certification program should take the relating certification test. Also, those who are interested in advancing their career choices, fulfilling and meeting their goals and aspirations, receiving recognition for their abilities and their desire to improve and excel. Who gives and administers the testing?Your local ESA member, Central Distributor, or an approved/pre-selected educational institution will give and administer the testing. Who certifies the technicians?ESA will score the tests and maintain records of testing and results on file. Also, ESA will make available to those who pass their test the following: certificates, patches, signage, and other items to promote the technicians achievement and professionalism. What is the cost?Currently, each test has a registration fee of $45.00 ($30.00 if re-testing). This fee is subject to change, so always verify your costs when registering for testing. What must I do to register and prepare for testing?Obtain a current registration form, fill in, and return to Engine Service Association with test fees included. You may also order study guides that relate to tests you are planning to take. These guides are useful for both new and experienced technicians as they cover fifty to seventy-five percent of actual test questions and will refresh and update your knowledge. Where and when can I be tested?Upon request from your nearest ESA Member/Central Distributor, you will receive a copy of current test sites. Scheduled dates and times might change, so pre-registration is necessary to ensure that you can participate at a specific test location/date/time. What should I do the day of testing?Attempt to be rested and alert on your test day. Arrive at the test site early for sign-in and instructions. Two hours are allowed for each test, expect to use the majority of this time for completion. Will I be notified of test results if I am not successful?While you cannot be provided individual test question results, you can obtain a summarization of results by test section. Current test sections are Fundamentals, Servicing, Systems, Failure Analysis and Troubleshooting. Your results will be listed by number of questions per section, questions missed, and percentage of missed questions. Will I ever need to be re-certified?ESA/OPE Certification is good for three years. The Engine Service Association maintains and monitors technician records and notifies you when your various categories of certification are due for renewing. It is important to notify ESA of your address changes. Remember, certification is yours personally, and (while in effect) will reflect positively on your achievements ... no matter where you work or live.
