The question was whether or not there was a bad ssx when customer receives a mulching plug instead of a plate for AYP model HD4QN20RE.

I get this question about once or twice per year…the short answer is the part is right and it will work.

The factory’s answer is:

“This is a valid sub which has been in effect for some time. The plug works just as well as the plate. The plug fits into the inside opening of mower..and the rear door holds it in place. This was a cost efficient change as most of our current mowers w/ mulching have the plug and not the plate.”

The lever for the control valve has a bracket that often needs to be replaced. If the IPL does not show the part numbers for the bracket and bolts, here they are:
